Raised by the Yangtze River in China, Shao Wei came to the United States in 1996, and earned an M.A. in Creative Writing from New York University, an M.F.A from the Michener Center for Writers at UT Austin, and a Ph.D. from UT Dallas. Her accolades include a 2002 Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize by the University of Pittsburgh Press; the Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers Award; a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, and Fredrica Clifton scholarship at Squaw Valley Community of Writers. Her poetry collections include Pulling a Dragon’s Teeth, Nine Songs. Females, and works of nonfiction, A Culture Bird Looking for Myself in New York, and Homeland.
